“This is a story for the seekers of love. The ones that find themselves in a cycle that gives and takes. Poems crafted by those experiences and images that tell the story.”
- Emmanuel Cazeau
Written and Photographed by Emmanuel Cazeau, “SLIM: For Those Whose Hearts Wander” is a photo and poetry album that follows the narrator’s journey into and out of a romantic relationship in four acts. Starting in the year 2019 Cazeau ideated, shot, wrote, and created the project
The project highlights the up-and-down and bright-and-dark features of love and heartbreak. This book represents, to me, inner conflict. Overall, what is highlighted is the desire to be loved and find comfort in someone who isn't the best for you. During the good moments where love, happiness, and pure bliss are used to describe the times, it is reminiscent of daylight. In moments of despair, anguish, and distress it can feel somber like a night with no moon.
Every act is a moment in the process of falling both in and out of love. The first two chapters are the dawns of love. Where the warm yellow sunlight supersedes the worries of the budding relationship. They are colored with higher yellow content which contrasts with the last two acts where they are to be interpreted when the sun sets. As the yellowness fades the moon rises and the relationship comes to an end.
The conceptual process I took allowed me to feel the emotion of the shoots. As I used those emotions to help begin dissecting the words and times of the poems to guide the proportions of yellow and black per act drawing. Each of the designs references a moment in the four acts chosen by Cazeau for me to digitize and edit.
